FAQ

ANSWERS TO POPULAR QUESTIONS
WHAT IS FOSTER CARE?

Foster care is a protective service provided to families experiencing difficulties so severe that the children are temporarily removed from their home and placed in a foster home. In these foster homes, foster parents provide a temporary, safe, stable and nurturing environment until children are able to be return home or reach another permanency goal.

WHAT ARE THE REQUIREMENTS TO BECOME A VOLUNTEER?

Anyone interested in volunteering must first fill out a volunteer application. If you are interested in one or more of our opportunities involved with working directly with families we serve, a background check is required.

WHERE ARE YOUR VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES?

Our main office is in Midtown, but most of our opportunities are off-site at our other offices, group homes or other facilities, depending on the type of volunteer work you’re interested in. There is a place on the volunteer application to specify the areas you’re willing to volunteer.

HOW DO I BEGIN THE ADOPTION PROCESS?

The adoption process begins with an inquiry. At Families First we receive several calls, emails which lead to conversations that take place between an interested family and our staff. Upon that inquiry, interested parties may be asked to participate in an adoption orientation or IMPACT Training class. There is also necessary paperwork that will need to be completed before the homestudy can begin.
